Music and lyrics
There remains confusion and debate over the line “Are we human, or are we dancer?” in the song’s chorus due to its incorrect grammar.[9] Debate raged across the internet over whether the lyrics said “dancer” or “denser”, a misunderstanding which invoked conflicting interpretations of the song’s meaning.[10][11] On the band’s official website, the biography section states that Flowers is singing “Are we human, or are we dancer?” and also says that the lyrics were inspired by a disparaging comment made by Hunter S. Thompson, where he stated America was raising “a generation of dancers”.[12][13] In an interview with Rolling Stone, Flowers said that he was irritated over the confusion about the lyrics and also that fans were unhappy with the song’s dance beat: “It’s supposed to be a dance song, [the beat] goes with the chorus…If you can’t put that together, you’re an idiot. I just don’t get why there’s a confusion about it.”[14]

The dancer, defined in the story, is a person who constantly seeks the infinite and invisible audience that modern media offers. The fame that a successful dancer gathers has a dramatic effect on the life of the dancer and upon people who seek out the dancer (those who consider themselves “elect”).
Ha, it took me a while, but I finally figured out what this song means. “Are we human, or are we dancer?” The main line is asking if we are human, as in, can we make our own choices in our life, and think independently? Or are we dancers, whose every move is choreographed and planned out? Are our lives like that?
there is at least one more meaning for this line that I can think of: Serious dancers are probably the most balanced, agile and strong (for their body weight) people out there. This makes them feel so good that they loose their capacity for compassion (i.e. feeling what other people can feel). So, in a sense the are not human anymore.
